This session outlines how both human universality and human difference can be held within one framework, while neither silencing different voices for the expediencies of cohesion, nor fragmenting organizations through differences. Starting with a brief definition of dignity, this talk explores dignity affirmations and violations and their role in DEI dynamics. It then proceeds to outline paths for change action grounded in empathy, self-leadership, and relational care.
Unintended Consequences: DEI Efforts as Accelerators for Global Techno-Consumerism
This talk presents a nuanced, uncomfortable, and thought-provoking perspective on the unintended consequences of US-American DEI efforts within the US and globally. It provides a critical analysis of movements such as “Cancel Culture” and others, and how the energy of these movements is coming to be co-opted for agendas of global techno-consumerism.
